lots of stuff going on now. we’re de-cluttering and getting rid of a bunch of stuff we can’t possibly take to SD, and that’s a lot of stuff. we’re likely going to be moving from a 3,600 sq foot home to a 2,000 sq foot one. that means we need to get rid of 1,600 sq feet of…stuff. craigslist is quickly becoming one of my most-travelled sites. i’ve gotten over my shock of having to move to california (someplace i *swore* i’d never move) and i’m starting to look forward to year-round 75 degree days. i’m also thinking this might make it easier for noah to come and have a visit - selling the “hey, come out to AZ and enjoy the 110 degree days” can be a bit hard sometimes.

and because moving isn’t ever enough to keep anyone busy, i’ve decided to go back into the consulting business. working with the company i’m at now has made me realize just how necessary and under-appreciated training is. so if you know of a company that is badly in need of web-based training, let me know and i’ll give you a fatty kickback. you know: scratch my back, scratch your back and all that. i’m not above being in the good ‘ol boy’s club. the new site will be at http://www.criticalpathlearning.com; ignore that “4th of july” thing up there right now - i didn’t realize we’d be moving to SD when i posted that.

so i’m a gadget junkie; this is a well-established fact. my latest stupidity involved standing in line at 5 am on friday morning in the rain in front of an AT&T store with kevin. fortunately, he encourages my insanity and doesn’t even think of making fun of the fact that we were up that early to get a damn iphone (we were 8th and 9th in line, by the way). you don’t really want to hear how stupid it is that you’re standing in line while you’re standing in line. you want to hear how cool you’re going to be with all the other gadget junkies when you show off your new iphone. kevin does an excellent job of reinforcing my ridiculous behavior. either way, i got an iphone. it turned out they only had 40 phones at that store so the other 260 people in line didn’t get one. part of me feels bad for those folks, and another smaller part of me is slightly gleeful. i’m giving that smaller part a good thrashing, but it’s a half-hearted thrashing. :)

we’re moving to san diego.  @ got the promo from out of nowhere on friday at 12:32 pm.  so now we have to buy a house out there, pack up this one, move out, sell this house (!) and figure out how things work in california.  fortunately, reporting to the CIO has its advantages; i’ll be able to work remotely and keep my job, which makes things quite a bit easier.

i have to tell you: houses in san diego ain’t cheap.  we’ve decided we’re going to go with a foreclosure so we can get a halfway decent house.  the key term here is “halfway decent”.  some of these things aren’t really fit to live in, and they’re definitely not what we’re used to.  all in all, it’s going to be an interesting experience.

matt, standing in the doorway of my office.  he’s an all-around good guy, and although he doesn’t look like it, he’s easily one of the best jazz guitarists i’ve heard, ever.

i’ve been a bit busy recently and have been getting no small amount of grief about updating my site.  i grumbled about this until i saw my last post was april 7th, and now i feel a bit small, so i’m going to try to remedy that a bit here.

so steve announced the $199 3G iphone to be released july 11th. well, count me in.  i figure i’ll be able to sell my voyager for about $250 to$300, which will pay for the iphone and most of my cancellation fee for verizon.  :)  plus, at&t has rollover minutes, so we’ll see how that works.

based on the SDK apple just released for the iphone, i think i’m going to have to brush up on my nonexistent xcode skills to start writing some apps for that platform.  i really think that’s the future of application development, based upon some of the things i’ve seen demoed on the new iphone.  you’re able to run 3d games on the damn thing, for pete’s sake.

speaking of apple, my mom just got an ipod for her birthday.  if you’re a superstitious person, i’d suggest you start stocking up on your canned goods, because armageddon is very likely just around the corner.  my mom thinks the internet is the devil, so for her to even *think* about using an ipod is staggering.

on the family front, we’ve gone through several almost-moves with @’s job.  i’m kind of glad i didn’t post anything here about them, as we’ve gone through more than just a few.  i’ll let you in on this, though: the current possibility is to san diego.  now, i’m not a california fan *at all*.  like, *at all*.  they’re anti-everything and have laws to back that attitude up.  like, what am i going to do with my guns if we move? fortunately, i don’t think this move is imminent; it’s likely to end up just like all the others.

finally back on projects at work.  had a bit of a lull there for a while that had me worried.  working with the marketing department [which is actually a pretty good marketing group, surprisingly] on some web-based training for our new site launch.  i feel like these guys actually get it when it comes to training.  the rest of the organization isn’t quite there yet, but i’m working on bringing them around.

july 11th.  ’nuff said.
